When an employee at Mattel came up with the idea for the Bratz dolls, the Barbie company claimed the rights to that idea. But whoever owned that idea, the bigger company was in a better position to outlast the smaller upstart in the lengthy court battle. We talk to Orly Lobel, a professor and author of “You Don’t Own Me: How Mattel v. MGA Entertainment Exposed Barbie’s Dark Side,” about what she discovered following this case.
